Letting go…

April 11th, 2008

A soon to be grandmother in Mexico asked me where I got my yarn, and perked up when I mentioned I wanted to rid myself of some of my stash (sob… gulp…hankys flying).  She came over to my flat the next day and proceeded to pick out some great yarn for her future family member.  I ended up selling some yarn I hadn’t meant to see- 7 skeins of Rowan Denim- and a few other bits.  But in all I was more satisfied by her excitement than a slightly smaller stash.  I realised that letting go is not too hard to do.

I hate sleeves!!!

March 28th, 2008

I’ve been trying to concentrate on the CHP this week, and last night, after a big push I finally finished the sleeves.. after having to unravel about 1/3 of the cap and doing it over again.  Maybe there’s a mistake in the pattern, or maybe I just really hate sleeves so much that they hate me back.   They’re done- the sleeves are finished.  For some reason it took me longer to do the sleeves (done together by the way) than the front, and sides.  I wonder if there’s a mistake in the pattern when it comes to the sleeve cap because after the K2tog 5 times every 4th row… i was left with nearly 30 stiches instead of the 22… so I kept going until I had 22 stitches and that’s when the sleeve cap was long enough.

I cast on the hood and now I’m busy with that.  I really want to finish this and wear it if only once before Summer is here (in San Diego summer is already here, thought here they call it Spring.  It’s already warmer than any warm summer day in Manchester!).

Already I’m considering my next cast-on.  I recently go the Norah Gaughan Collection No.2 from Berroco and I’m very tempted by at least 3 patterns… the one that temps me the most is Loop a clever cardi/dress.  I’m digging into my stash for my next project so what I choose will be directly related to what yarn I have.

Zen and the frock cami

March 5th, 2008

I hate to say it but I’m not a great finisher… I love to start on projects but with many, I loose sight or I fall in love with another yarn. You see, I realised that what I really love about knitting is the yarn. I love the colours, the feel of it. I love how it knits up and the texture it forms. The project itself is almost secondary.

I finished organising what is about 40% of my actual stash

I considered carefully what yarns to actually have on display. Which were my favorites? Which ones who would inspire me? I sat for about as long as my daughter would let me just touching and enjoying the yarn. I have decided I have to really love the project I’m working on, else it will never get done. 1/3 of the yarn on display is from frogged projects ;-(

In knitting the Frock Camisole, I am really enjoying how it gleams. It has just a touch of thin and slightly bulkier bits which make some parts of it a bit more matt than others. The interplay of light it wonderful. You can see my current progress on the Frock Cami here. I’m just began working on the front part. I am very excited to see this one finished because I can’t wait to wear it!

I’ve also added some new projects in the gallery so take a look!

My lovely stash at the moment. I think it’s turning into a firehazard… my daughter thinks it a new mountain put there for her pleasure… I need to organise. I might be a lot of things, but organised I am not… Truly, this is a challenging project.
