RIP

March 15th, 2008

The Central Park Hoodie, because of other commitments and necesseties it’s taken me nearly two weeks to finish the back, and finished I am… until I spotted a mistake I made in the cabling… means ripping up about 4 ” or more.   I hate ripping up.  there’s nothing as disenchanting than having to rip up work that was hard to come by (to find the time to do it!!). I seriously considered just frogging the whole thing and doing something else!  I feel like I’ve lost momentum… part of that is due to the disheartening result of the Frock Cami…  I’m contemplating redoing the top of that one as well- though I could give it to my younger sister who would probably look fabulous in it!

Frock cami finished

March 12th, 2008

I finished the Frock Cami, and though it looks gorgeous, on me it doesn’t look that nice… oh dear… I suppose the front and back plackets are to narrow and make my bust look like I’m just ready to start breast-feeding twins. I ought to rip it up and do the back and front parts over again, this time not doing all of the decreases asked for. It’s late and I’ll think about it later… maybe I’ll find a way to wear it.  I hate ripping back finished projects… grrr….

Frock Cami front and plans for the weekend

March 6th, 2008

I am nearly done with the front- all I have left to do is 11″ of strips.

DSCN0502 My concern is that the front part is looking quite small. I hope it stretches! I’ve got more pictures of the Frock Camisole in the Knit Gallery

Unfortunately for this project (but fortunately for me) - we’re going away this weekend to Guerrero Negro in Baja California to look at the whales and baby whales in a lagoon the grey whales use for birthing. It’s a 10 hr car trip, and since I get car sick if I read even for a short while, I’m going to leave this one here and take with me either the Central Park Hoodie, or maybe even better - the Blanket Cardigan. At the moment though, I just realised my better half’s wooly hat is nowhere to be found- seeing as how we have a lagoon tour for 8 am- I’m making another one out of the beloved Peace Fleece using the pattern from Last Minute Knitted Gifts (very useful book!). I’m pretty sure I have more than enough for the CHP and the wooly hat (and hopefully some left over for some colour work in another project I’ve got in mind!).

Zen and the frock cami

March 5th, 2008

I hate to say it but I’m not a great finisher… I love to start on projects but with many, I loose sight or I fall in love with another yarn. You see, I realised that what I really love about knitting is the yarn. I love the colours, the feel of it. I love how it knits up and the texture it forms. The project itself is almost secondary.

I finished organising what is about 40% of my actual stash

I considered carefully what yarns to actually have on display. Which were my favorites? Which ones who would inspire me? I sat for about as long as my daughter would let me just touching and enjoying the yarn. I have decided I have to really love the project I’m working on, else it will never get done. 1/3 of the yarn on display is from frogged projects ;-(

In knitting the Frock Camisole, I am really enjoying how it gleams. It has just a touch of thin and slightly bulkier bits which make some parts of it a bit more matt than others. The interplay of light it wonderful. You can see my current progress on the Frock Cami here. I’m just began working on the front part. I am very excited to see this one finished because I can’t wait to wear it!

I’ve also added some new projects in the gallery so take a look!

Multi-tasking

March 3rd, 2008

My trick to knitting lots of different projects at once (right now I’m at about 5) is that nearly weekly, my hubby and I (and Jr. in tow) drive to and from Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico to San Diego, CA USA for the weekend. It gives me at least 1 1/2 hours of pure knitting time. It works well because I’ve learned to knit in the dark. I always have one project that is so easy I don’t really have to look at what I’m doing.

Right now I’m in the body part of the Frock Camisole (in the Spring 2008 Interweave Knits). The Yarn is the very gorgeous Maggi Knits Linen- I love it. My only problem with this yarn is that it is a very loose 3-ply, almost like knitting with three balls of yarn. This yarn is a bit deceiving in the dark and I found myself knitting with only one strand of the three at one point.
